What is the difference between the terms ANTIBACTERIAL and ANTIMICROBIAL?
- ANTIBACTERIAL refers to substances that fight the proliferation or infections caused by bacteria.
- ANTIMICROBIAL refers to substances that act against microorganisms. For example prokaryotes, bacteria, eukaryotes, protozoa, algae, fungi, and viruses, killing them or preventing their growth.

What is the difference between a BACTERIA and a VIRUS?
Bacteria and viruses can create disease. However, there are bacteria that help us in our day-to-day as in digestion. Nevertheless, when there are excess and harmful bacteria, they can generate a pathology.
- REPRODUCTION: Bacteria can multiply while viruses attack healthy cells to transform them.
- NEED TO LIVE: Bacteria need nothing to live, and viruses need a cell to live.
- TREATMENT: Antibiotics attack bacteria. However, there is no specific treatment to kill a virus. Treatments often relieve symptoms. But it is the immune system that has to keep the virus at bay.
